It was senior night at Greencastle Tuesday and while the effort and physicality was there for the Tiger Cubs it was Edgewood who came out victorious 2-1 in a boys' soccer match.

This loss comes after the Tiger Cubs tied at Sullivan over the weekend, effectively eliminating their chances at winning the new WIC.

"Most of the teams that we face in the sectional we've played well against," GHS coach JD Simms said. "That's exciting to see. Losing conference against Sullivan or tying that game set us back a bit. We talked about it for quite a bit and reassessed what we want ot do in the season. All of our eyes are on sectional now."

Simms said he and his team was disappointed but came to a realization that if they got more focused and put the setback behind them they could look to a sectional title for a big victory.

He also said his Tiger Cubs are good are spacing themselves out for shots on the goal and its important to get good feeds to players when they are in good position.

"We've got to get wide," Simms said. "(Evan) Crowe and Seth (Nichols) are always open out there. They are really good about creating space. We really need to use that space and work on getting the ball out to them. Sometimes our passes aren't strong enough."

The Tiger Cubs did take some decent shots on goal throughout the night. Zach Wilkerson connected for the only Tiger Cub score of the night but GHS was able to take the ball into Edgewood territory for some shots on goal. One well-placed shot in the second half bounced off the cross bar.

Later in the second half with the Tiger Cubs down 2-1 Nichols avoided an Edgewood defender and took a good shot that went just wide. A second shot even later in the half by Kevin Polster came from a feed from Crowe but went out of bounds. Each looked like it may have tied the game.

"It was a really physical game," Simms said. "It's kind of fun because the parents get into it. Everybody is yelling with high emotion. But I like when my team comes out and plays just as physical as the other team. I felt like we did that tonight. It was just unlucky. It' s soccer."

GHS will travel to Owen Valley Thursday and then will play in the WIC crossover game at home Saturday.
