Cornerstone Baptist to host prayer vigil for imprisoned pastor

Friday, September 25, 2015

More than three years after American pastor Saeed Abedini was thrown in Iranian prison while on a humanitarian trip to build an orphanage, his children are still without their father--all because the Iranian government finds his Christian faith to be a threat to the country.

Cornerstone Baptist Church will be joining individuals and churches around the globe on Saturday, Sept. 26, at noon in a prayer vigil for Pastor Abedini.

Although U.S. and Iranian leaders were able to have unprecedented meetings and conversations throughout this year about other subjects, Abedini remains imprisoned in Iran and his family continues to wait and pray for his release.

After a year full of false hope and unmet expectations, the Boise, Idaho, resident continues to face beatings, threats and psychological abuse in prison, solely for his Christian beliefs.

Sept. 26 marks three years of Abedini's imprisonment and concerned citizens will gather in Greencastle, and across the globe at similar vigils, to pray for his safe relief and call on governments worldwide to act on Abedini's behalf.

Abedini is not alone in his plight. Christians around the world are persecuted daily for their faith, facing threats of beating and death, and are often forced to flee their homes for fear of retribution.

The vigil lasts from noon-1 p.m. at the church, 218 S. Bloomington St., Greencastle.

  • I wish to state that I believe the release of American prisoners should be in forced. the torture they have gone through is inhumane. we as American should stand up for our rights of freedom. Christians should continue to pray. thank you for keeping us informed. God bless you.
