'Before I Die' interactive wall to be erected at 9 East on Poplar

What do you hope to accomplish before you die?

That's a big question, and the Greencastle Arts Council, 9 East on Poplar, and DePauw's Student Art Council is setting out to confront it, with an interactive chalkboard wall mural.

The project is titled "Before I Die," and was originally created by artist Candy Chang as a place where members of the community could "pick up a piece of chalk, reflect on their lives, and share their personal aspirations in a public space," by filling in the blank to the prompt "Before I Die, I want to _."

The Greencastle Arts Council and DePauw Student Art Council are following in Chang's footsteps by creating their own wall, and hopes to get members of the community engaged in pondering life's ultimate question.

The "Before I Die" wall will be debuted at the First Friday event on Oct. 2 at 9 East on Poplar at the corner of Vine and Poplar streets, and will remain up until the end of DePauw's Art Week, Nov. 8. The official unveiling time of the "Before I Die" wall is set for 5:30 p.m. Friday,

Residents' contributions to the wall will be documented and posted on the Greencastle Arts Council website (http://www.greencastleartscouncil.org) and Facebook page. Everyone is invited to anonymously share your life aspirations.
