Heritage Lake man, 23, faces sexual misconduct charge

A Putnam County man, who reportedly began dating his acknowledged girlfriend when he was 22 and she was just 14, is facing a felony sexual misconduct with a minor charge.

Nathan Ryan Hill, now 23, of Heritage Lake (Coatesville address), was arrested Thursday morning on the Level 5 felony following a recent investigation by Indiana State Police Trooper Angela Hahn and the Putnam County Department of Child Services (DCS).

Hill was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

A Level 5 felony carries a sentencing range of 1-6 years in prison and a $10,000 fine under the new Indiana criminal code with an advisory sentence of three years.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed in the case this week, Hill reportedly began having sexual relations with the Putnam County girl right after her 15th birthday last December. She is now reportedly pregnant with a due date in November.

State Police investigators were notified of allegations of sexual misconduct in early September after Roachdale Town Marshal Mike Mahoy was made aware "of a possible sexual abuse case involving a 15-year-old and a 23-year-old," Sgt. Hahn's report noted.

During a subsequent interview with Hill, he was informed by Sgt. Hahn that he can no longer have any contact with the victim due to the ongoing criminal investigation.

Hill reacted by getting up and throwing his cellphone across the room in anger, the probable cause affidavit noted. The suspect later said he smashed his phone so he would not be able to contact the girl.

Court documents note that the DCS investigator has informed Hill she was placing him as "a sexual perpetrator."

Trooper Hahn concluded her report by noting that the only thing to be investigated further "is when the baby is born, I will need to get DNA from the baby for comparison to the DNA swab from Mr. Hill (that is) being held in evidence."

No court dates were available Friday in the case.
