County Jail

Six people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 3 p.m. on Friday, Bruce Edward Schwomeyer, 59, Cloverdale, was lodged at the jail on a court order.

At 9:30 p.m. Cletus Shawn Weaver, 53, Quincy, was arrested for being a habitual traffic violator.

* At 9:45 a.m. Saturday, David Devon McDonald, 52, Indianapolis, was booked in on a warrant for possession of marijuana.

* At 9:52 a.m. Monday, Amanda Kay Smiley, 26, Brazil, was charged with probation violation.

At 1:50 p.m. Logan Spencer Campbell, 26, Greencastle, was arrested for driving while intoxicated with a prior conviction and public indecency.

At 9:40 p.m. Christina Ann Stein, 37, Plainfield, was booked in on a warrant for criminal conversion and for driving with a suspended license.

City Police

Two recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

At 9:28 p.m. Monday, Nathaniel Allen Bennett, 23, Greencastle, was arrested on a Marion County warrant for two counts of sexual misconduct with a minor and for possession of paraphernalia.

Arrested by Officer Brad Hiatt at Heartland Automotive on Warren Drive, Bennett was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

During his patdown, officers discovered a pipe in Bennett's pocket, leading to the paraphernalia arrest.

Bennett is facing a Level 4 felony count in the sexual misconduct charge that allegedly occurred in the Indianapolis area.

Meanwhile, at 11:32 p.m. Sunday, Clynt Allen Agee, 24, Poland, was arrested at a Frazier Street residence on a Vigo County warrant.

Arrested by Officer Kyle Lee and lodged in the Putnam County Jail, Agee is being held on a warrant that stems from an original charge of conversion.

Sheriff's Department

The Putnam County Sheriff's Department responded to four recent property-damage accidents.

* At 4:35 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 30, Eric Cox, 44, Cloverdale, was southbound on U.S. 231 approaching County Road 800 South in a 2012 International registered to A.J. Tool Rental of Avon.

Cox told Deputy Virgil Lanning a deer entered the road and he could not stop in time to avoid the collision.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 8:53 p.m. on Saturday, Cheryl A. Mason, 59, Greencastle, was westbound on county Road 350 North just west of County Road 225 West in a 1996 Chevrolet SUV when a deer ran into her path.

Mason told Deputy Mike Downing she served left to avoid the deer and lost control, leaving the south side of the road, where it struck the guardrail and went down the embankment.

The vehicle came to rest in a cornfield south of the road, facing north. Downing said it appeared the vehicle had flipped several times.

Mason tested at .18 percent blood alcohol content on the portable breath test and at .15 on the certified test. Charged with driving while intoxicated, she was booked into the Putnam County Jail at 10:47 p.m. She was also cited for driving without proof of financial responsibility.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

Bainbridge Fire Department and Operation Life attended to Mason's medical needs following the crash.

* At 10:24 a.m. on Saturday, Kevin W. Sickles, 19, Terre Haute, was southbound on S.R. 243 in a 2001 Chrysler Town and Country van when for an unknown reason his van crossed the centerline.

Sickles told Reserve Deputy Fred McIntire he tried to correct the vehicle and lost control, leaving the west side of S.R. 243. The vehicle rolled over as it went down the embankment, coming to rest on its top.

Sickles was treated at the scene by Operation Life for a complaint of pain. Also treated were passengers Jessica A. Kolesar, 18, Brazil, and Britany P. Truxal, Brazil, both of whom suffered head contusions.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 6:27 p.m. on Sunday, Rebecca S. Paul, 63, Greencastle, was stopped on County Road 200 South at U.S. 40 in a 2010 Nissan Murano. Kendra Tisdale, 18, Plainfield, also stopped on 200 South in a 2002 Acura RSX behind Paul's vehicle.

Paul told Deputy Kyle Gibbons she began to move forward but braked, yielding to passing motorists. Tisdale also began to move forward but was distracted and failed to break, rear-ending Paul's vehicle.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000. Both vehicles were driven from the scene.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department assisted with one medical run and several other dispatches recently.

* At 7:24 p.m. Friday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 905 S. College Ave. A pull station was activated.

* At 1:02 a.m. Saturday, GFD investigated a fire alarm at 504 E. Seminary St. The alarm was caused by setting off a fire extinguisher.

* At 3:12 a.m. Sunday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 504 E. Seminary St. caused by a smoke machine.

* At 3:31 a.m. Sunday, GFD investigated an alarm at 807 S. College Ave. caused by an activated pull station.
