Focus on Health Series to focus on family medical histories

Friday, October 16, 2015

Nurse Practitioner Betty Ulrich will present the Focus on Health series featuring family medical history Tuesday, Oct. 20 from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Putnam County Public Library.

This new monthly series will address both personal and community health concerns, including topics of interest suggested by participants.

Family members share genes, environment and lifestyles. By looking at patterns of disorders among relatives, it can be determined whether you, other family members or future generations may be at an increased risk of developing a condition such as heart disease, stroke, certain cancers, diabetes or others, and can take a more active role in prevention.

Ulrich served as an Army and Foreign Service nurse practitioner who has worked at military bases around the world, and has recently retired to Greencastle. Betty entered nursing when she joined the Army in 1972. She received her master's degree in Adult Chronic Illness at Boston College in 1991 and a Family Nurse Practitioner Master of Sciences degree from Duke University in 1999. She joined the Foreign Service (Diplomatic Corp) in 2001 and served around the world. Now retired, Ulrich works as a part-time volunteer in St. Ann's Clinic in Terre Haute.
