2015-16 changes for checking in deer and turkey

CLOVERDALE -- Starting at the beginning of the 2015 fall hunting seasons, changes were made on how Indiana hunters check in legally harvested deer and wild turkey.

As in years past, hunters are still required to have their deer or turkey checked in within 48 hours and follow regulations on temporary transport tags after harvesting game.

To help clarify these changes, there are three ways to report a harvested deer and turkey through the CheckIN Game system.

-- Report the harvested deer or turkey yourself online using CheckIN Game CheckINGame.IN.gov or by accessing the DNR phone app.

-- Locate a "traditional" check station.

-- Report via phone by calling 1-800-419-1326 ($3 service fee applies).

Hunters are advised to refer to the 2015-16 Indiana Hunting and Trapping Guide for more details about regulations. The Indiana Hunting and Trapping Guide can be found at most locations that sell hunting, trapping and fishing licenses, but can also be downloaded online at dnr.IN.gov.

If you are the traditional type of person and would like to see a list of "traditional" local check stations, they can be found online at hunting.IN.gov by clicking the "Check Station" link. The page organizes the traditional check stations by searching by county.

Being a check station is voluntary, and check stations are added and removed throughout the year. Huntes are advised to contact the check station prior to arrival to make certain they are open and still checking game. Check stations are privately owned and operated with unique operating hours.
