Wreath decorating contest to benefit Head Start students

Tuesday, October 27, 2015

The Greencastle location Head Start PTO and Family Group is sponsoring a wreath decorating contest to raise money for the students.

Head Start PTO secretary Yvone Scott explained the funds raised will help the group provide Christmas gifts to the students, purchase T-shirts and help send the students on field trips.

Local businesses, organizations and residents are encouraged to create an original wreath, which will be entered into a silent auction. There is a limit of one entry per entity.

Entry forms must be turned in by Nov. 6, with items to be dropped off to a Head Start employee at the Area 30 building, located at 1 N. Calbert Way, door 3, between Nov. 16-20 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

The wreaths will be put on display during a silent auction at the Putnam County Public Library Nov. 21 from 3-5 p.m.

Entry forms are available at the Greencastle Head Start, by calling Scott at 653-2944 or by email at putctywreath@yahoo.com. A $5 donation is also required to enter when forms are submitted.

Members of the PTO and Family Group will serve as the judges for the contest, with the top winners receiving gift baskets. Two peoples' choice winners will receive a gift certificate for a personal pan pizza from Monical's Pizza.

The top winner's wreath will be raffled, rather than included in the silent auction. Raffle tickets will be available for $1 each.

Wreaths must be artificial and a maximum of 24 inches wide. While no outlets will be available during display, lights can be battery powered if necessary.

Wreaths will be judged on workmanship, use of materials and originality.

"This is the first year for the contest. We are hoping it goes well so the idea can be used again in the future," Scott noted.
