Putnam County CERT open house set next Monday

The Putnam County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will host an open house at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9 at the Putnam County Emergency Operations Center, 1600 W. CR 225 S, Greencastle.

Interested individuals are encouraged to attend and have the opportunity to learn more about the Putnam County CERT

CERT is endorsed by the Putnam County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), and is seeking individuals interested in serving their community while receiving valuable training, both in general and specific response skills sets. Previous certifications are a plus.

Speakers will include representatives from the Putnam County EMA, the Putnam County Sheriff's Department, Mayor Sue Murray of Greencastle, Operation Life, Greencastle Fire Department and other Putnam County officials.

Available Skill Sets Training include disaster preparedness, communications, fire safety, first aid, CPR and basic medical operations, search and rescue, damage assessment with specific training in specialized vehicle support as well as air operations staffed out of the Putnam County Airport.

CERT responds to countywide and community-centered emergencies that require additional resources and manpower to support Putnam County Emergency First-Responders. CERT operates under the authority of FEMA, managed by Indiana Department of Homeland Security and is locally administered and operates as a 501 C-3 public charity.

Interested individuals must be at least 18 years of age to qualify and all applications are subject to background checks.
