Curt Leonard to stay on Fillmore Town Council

FILLMORE -- With two of three town councilmen retiring, the voters of Fillmore went to the polls Tuesday and chose to lean on some experience for the remaining seat.

Incumbent Curt Leonard, an independent, will return as the First Ward councilman after downing former clerk-treasurer Paul Alleyn 37-16.

Leonard has served a number of terms on the board and is looking to continue improving the town.

"I think this is my fourth or fifth time of doing this. I'd like to see us try to get the town to grow a little bit more."

Leonard will be joined on the board by Robin Duncan, who ran unopposed for the Third Ward seat.

In the Second Ward, Tom Gilson ran unopposed, but he plans to resign the position, as he is now serving as Fillmore's clerk-treasurer, a position for which no candidate filed in the election.

"The first thing is going to be myself and Robin finding someone else to be on this board because there was a vacancy," Leonard said. "So we'll be doing that, find the right person to fit that wants to help the town."

Looking ahead to another four years, Leonard said he hopes to move the town forward in a number of areas.

"Work with the police, work with the utilities, try to get some streets done," Leonard said. "Try to make it a little bit better of a place and try to get the people of the town involved. That's going to be the big thing I think."
