County Jail

Four persons were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 6:05 a.m. Taureen Kyron Terry, 33, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for criminal trespassing.

* At 9:05 a.m. on Monday, Leonard Lee Hernandez, 30, Cincinnati, was booked in on a hold for another county.

At 9:30 a.m. Paul Joseph Pearman, 36, Skitaook, Okla., was lodged at the jail on a hold for another county.

At 9:34 a.m. Devin George Jefferson, 26, Verga, Texas, was booked in on a hold for another county.

City Police

One recent arrest was reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

* At 1:58 a.m. Sunday, Joshua James Wright, 25, Greencastle, was arrested by Reserve Officer Billy Wallace.

Wright, who was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on a charge of possession of marijuana and for an Indiana Department of Correction warrant, was pulled over at the McDonald's parking lot on a traffic stop initially.

Meanwhile, three other young people will be summoned into court to face charges of being minors in consumption of alcohol after a 2:30 a.m. incident that also occurred on the McDonald's parking lot after a traffic stop for having a headlight out Sunday.

While the driver was not charged with anything, Officer Zach Rhine cited three passengers:

-- Grace Saint, 20, Indianapolis, who registered .156 percent blood-alcohol content under portable breathalyzer (PBT) testing.

-- Anna Savery, 19, Zionsville, who tested .17 percent blood-alcohol content under PBT testing.

-- Austin Westerfeld, 20, Greensburg, who registered .104 percent blood-alcohol content under PBT testing.

Two recent property-damage accidents were investigated by city officers.

* At 3:42 p.m. Friday, a one-vehicle mishap was reported on the parking lot at 409 E. Franklin St.

Yvonne Miller, 48, Greencastle, was westbound on Franklin Street in a 2013 Toyota Highlander when an abandoned utility pole, owned by Duke Energy, snapped without contact and fell to the ground in front of Miller, damaging the front end of her vehicle and scratching the windshield.

Officer Darrel Bunten estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

* At noon Friday, a two-vehicle accident was reported on Indianapolis Road near Calbert Way.

Wendy Crowell, 40, Brazil, was in the eastbound turn lane, waiting to go left off Indianapolis Road in a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt when her car was struck by a semi that turned into the passenger side of her vehicle, pushing the car into the concrete divider.

The 2013 Freightliner semi, driven by Terry Trosper, 58, Speedway, made a wide left turn, Officer Bunten reported, failing to see the Crowell vehicle. The semi driver said he felt the truck made contact with something but thought he had run over the center divider and did not see the car.

Damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

Crowell was cited for operating a vehicle without financial responsibility.

Three additional citations were issued recently by city officers.

* At 11:03 p.m. Saturday, Cody Southgate, 21, Greencastle, was cited by Officer Kyle Lee.

Stopped on Primrose Lane, Southgate was cited for an infraction of driving with a suspended license.

* At 11:55 p.m. Friday, Jamie Croy, 25, Greencastle, was cited by Officer Lee.

Stopped on Bloomington Street, Southgate was cited for an infraction of driving with a suspended license.

* At 12:45 a.m. Friday, Rebecca Bomgardner, 32, Greencastle, was ticketed by Reserve Officer Cameron Paul.

Stopped on Indianapolis Road, Bomgardner was cited for an expired license plate (Feb. 28, 2014).

Sheriff's Department

Putnam County Sheriff's Department deputies responded to five recent car-deer accidents.

* At 8:24 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 27, Kalene Murphy, 59, Bainbridge, was westbound on U.S. 36 near County Road 725 East in a 2012 Lincoln MKZ when a deer entered the road.

Murphy told Deputy Riley Houghton she did not have time to stop, colliding with the animal.

Damage was estimated at less than $1,000.

* At 6:08 a.m. Friday, Alison K. Walton, 40, Marshall, was southbound on U.S. 231 just south of County Road 350 North in a 2011 Toyota Corolla when a deer entered the road.

Walton told Deputy Jacob Harrington she was able to avoid the animal, but then another deer entered the road and she hit it.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 4:17 a.m. Saturday, Danielle M. Waldeck, 21, Lizton, was eastbound on U.S. 40 near County Road 325 West in a 2010 Honda Civic when a deer entered the road and she could not avoid the collision.

Deputy Houghton listed damage at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 3:23 a.m. on Sunday, Beverly M. Brown, 50, Maplewood, Ohio, was eastbound on Interstate 70 just west of U.S. 231 in a 2012 Volvo semi when she collided with a deer.

Deputy Houghton estimated damage at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 4:39 a.m. on Monday, Carla S. Walters, 58, Crawfordsville, was southbound on County Road 250 East just south of North Putnam High School in a 2013 Chevrolet van when she collided with a deer.

Deputy Mike Downing estimated damage at $2,501-$5,000.

Deputies also investigated three other property-damage accidents.

* At 6:32 a.m. Friday, Kyle B. Means, 22, Mooresville, was southbound on County Road 75 West in a 2002 Ford Ranger when he failed to negotiate the curve at County Road 50 North.

Lt. Dwight Simmons said the truck slid through the curve, leaving the road and hitting several trees.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 8:12 a.m. on Friday, Tamra S. Jordan, 57, Quincy, was northbound on U.S. 231, approaching County Road 900 North in a 2001 Ford Explorer.

Jordan told Capt. Tom Helmer she was being followed by an SUV that was "all over the road" since the north side of Greencastle. She said the vehicle would tailgate her, then back off, then tailgate again.

Jordan said she decided to exit the road by turning into a private driveway. She said she activated her turn signal and slowed, but was struck by the other SUV.

Johnathon C. Kashman, 21, Russellville, the driver of the other vehicle, a 2001 Ford Expedition, said he was fatigued after a 12-hour shift at his job in Greencastle and was going home.

Kashman admitted to hitting Jordan's vehicle.

Another witness also said Kashman was driving erratically and she was concerned for her safety as well as other motorists.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 7:09 p.m. on Friday, Eugenio A. Ostachuk, 59, Roachdale, was southbound on U.S. 231 approaching U.S. 36 in a 2011 BMW 2800 when he saw a large white object in the southbound lane.

Ostachuk told Deputy Downing he was unable stop or avoid the object, hitting it with the front of his vehicle, damaging the front bumper and undercarriage.

Damage was estimated at less than $1,000.

City Fire

Greencastle Fire Department assisted with four medical runs and responded to three other dispatches recently.

* At 8:17 p.m. Saturday, GFD investigated a fire alarm at 208 E. Olive St. The alarm was caused by a faulty detector head.

* At 5:05 p.m. Sunday, GFD assisted with a motor vehicle accident on Warren Drive. The department assisted Operation Life and cleaned debris from the roadway.

* At 11:14 a.m. Monday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident at 1145 Indiana St. The department removed hazards from the roadway.
