Banner Graphic: What is different this year, being a senior?

Jessica Modglin: Being a senior brings a lot more challenges. It brings a little more leadership than what I've ever had to do. I think it just brings a different environment because the girls really look up to you and you have to be there for them, you have to lead for them. If they're down, you have to bring them up. That's your job.

BG: What got you into athletic training?

JM: I really like taking care of other people and I thought I wanted to be an athletic trainer. So I talked to our AT and she said that I could help her. Now we're just really good friends, so I just do it with her. I started out with Valerie Rayce and with the year end, Katie Papper came to be our trainer.

BG: What are some of your favorite things about your teammates?

JM: My favorite thing about my teammates would have to be just our overall environment, the way that we get along, the way that we read people and read each other. We're just all match so well in the way that we play together. We're just all really good friends. We connect well.

BG: What are some of your favorite memories playing at South Putnam?

JM: My favorite memory would have to be right now (following Thursday's 56-44 win over North Putnam), winning the paddle. Last year our last game, being able to play in the sectional championship game. That's really new for us. That was a good change and showed us where we needed to go, so that was a good memory for me.

BG: What do you think are some of the most challenging aspects of basketball?

JM: The most challenging aspect would be mental -- being mentally tough and being able to handle and carry yourself in an appropriate way and just think. And then not only to be there for yourself but be there for your teammates when they're down.

BG: What are some of your favorite things about the sport?

JM: My favorite thing about the sport would have to be the team aspect. I love being around these girls and these girls are absolutely everything to me. This sport is a lot of work but it's also a lot of love, just the environment of it.

BG: Who are some of your biggest supporters off the court?

JM: My biggest supporter would have to be my father and my mom, but especially my dad. He's coached me a lot through it.

BG: What's it like having the support group like that?

JM: It's amazing, it's absolutely amazing. They're so special to me. We're a strong family and I don't know where I'd be without them.

BG: What are your post-high school plans?

JM: I would love to go to the University of Kentucky and get a major in animal sciences and become an animal consultant.

BG: Animal consultant? What does that entail?

JM: That entails if somebody has a certain breed of an animal and they want a good match to go with that farm, then I would say, 'You should probably get this type of animal' or 'You should breed them this way' or 'You should feed them this type of feed to get the height potential.'

BG: So you like animals?

JM: I absolutely do. I live on a farm with my family and I'm surrounded by animals 24-7.
