County Jail

Two people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, Tyler Allen Byers, 19, Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail on a warrant for failure to appear.

* At 12:07 a.m. Friday, Dane Anthony Archer, 34, Greencastle, was booked in for possession of methamphetamine, possession of a syringe and possession of paraphernalia.

Sheriff's Department

Putnam County Sheriff's Deputy Stephen Smith responded to a pair of Thursday evening crashes involving deer in the roadway.

* At 7:24 p.m. John T. Clayton, 27, Brazil, was westbound on U.S. 40, approaching County Road 550 South in a 2000 Hyundai Tiburon, when he struck a deer.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 10:26 p.m. Amanda K. Murphy, 32, Clinton, was westbound on U.S. 36, approaching County Road 490 West in a 2013 Ford Fusion, when she hit a deer.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

City Police

Two persons were cited recently for possession of paraphernalia, Greencastle City Police officers reported.

The incident unfolded after Officer Kyle Lee made a traffic stop at Shadowlawn and Highfall avenues at 8:31 p.m. Wednesday.

Officer Lee cited both the driver and passenger for possession of paraphernalia, issuing summons to Jonathan Eversole, 25, Greencastle, and Beth Thompson, 30, Clayton.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to five dispatches and one medical assist recently.

* At 3:12 p.m. on Thursday, GFD assisted Fillmore FD with a structure fire at U.S. 40 in Mount Meridian.

* At 9:51 p.m. on Thursday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 807 S. College Ave. The alarm was determined to have been caused by a pull station on the third floor of the building.

* At 10:51 p.m. on Thursday, GFD responded to a tripped fire alarm caused by smoking at 1165 Paddock Ct.

* At 9:14 a.m. on Friday, GFD responded to a gas leak at 611 Main St. Nearby construction crews struck an underground gas line.

* At 4:39 p.m. on Friday, GFD responded to a gas leak at 403 E. Hanna St. The leak was caused by a leak around the building's gas meter.
