Catherine E. Fruhan

Catherine Fruhan, 67, Greencastle, died on Friday, Nov. 20, 2015.

She was the beloved sister of William Fruhan Jr. and the late Beth Kovach; dear sister-in-law of Virginia Fruhan; loving aunt to Kim Little (Joseph), Kathey Sterley Purcell, Ron Kovach (Michelle), Todd Kovach, William Fruhan III (Lisa), Matthew Fruhan (Greta) and Scott Fruhan; devoted great-aunt to Joseph Little (Anne), Megan Sprenger (Ben), Ben Sterley (Jillian), Kyle Kovach, Kevin Kovach, Rob Kovach, Quintin Liam Kovach, Kiernan Kovach, Jack Fruhan, Lily Fruhan, Tucker Fruhan, Miles Fruhan, Gracie Fruhan, Harper Fruhan and Georgia Fruhan.

Catherine earned her B.A. in art history from Connecticut College for Women, studied in Italy at the University of Florence, then received a master's degree and Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.

After briefly teaching at the College of Wooster, she joined the faculty at DePauw University as professor of art and art history in 1984. She chaired the department from 1994-1997 and 2004-2005. He courses included Italian Renaissance, European Baroque, Late Nineteenth Century French Art, as well as a class on documentary film.

In 2004 she received the Mr. and Mrs. Fred C. Tucker Jr. Distinguished Career Award and in 2011 she was a recipient of the Exemplary Teacher Award.

A celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12 at the Prindle Institute for Ethics, DePauw University, 296 W. CR 225 South, Greencastle, IN 46135.
