James Owens, 66, Greencastle, was westbound on Indianapolis Road, driving a 1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme and traveling behind a 2005 Toyota Camry driven by James Sanford, 68, Fillmore, Capt. Chris Jones reported.

As Sanford slowed for traffic backing up in front of him, Owens was unable to get his car stopped in time on the wet pavement to avoid a collision, Capt. Jones reported.

The Owens car struck the Sanford car in the rear, pushing it into a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero, driven by Jacob Gaddis, 18, Bainbridge.

The driver was reportedly trapped, but she was out of the vehicle and moving upon Biggs' arrival. Trimble was checked out by medical personnel and refused further treatment.

Jernagan told Capt. Tom Helmer she lost control on the ice- and snow-covered road and began to slide into the southbound lane. She steered the car back into the northbound lane but the car crossed back to the right, sliding off the travel portion of the road. The right rear impacted the face of a guardrail.

The area over the right rear fender was damaged. The guardrail was not affected. Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

Following the crash, the vehicle was moved to a private drive for safety reasons.

Vanet told Reserve Deputy Rick Lambert she noticed a southbound box truck that appeared to be having trouble negotiating a curve and incline in the road. She tried to give the other vehicle room to navigate the road.

At this time, Vanet believes she overcorrected in the snow and left the roadway. The car traveled about 25 feet off the road before hitting a parked 2000 Jeep Cherokee and a boat and trailer attached to the Jeep.

Vanet's vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage and had to be towed. The Jeep's tow hitch and undercarriage were damaged. The boat was knocked loose from the trailer and the motor dislodged from its mount.

Marsh told Helmer that her dog in the front seat distracted her and she looked over at the animal and drove off the north side of the road.

The truck hit a ditch filled with rip-rap before hitting trees and a fence.

The driver suffered mild bleeding to the face, possibly due to airbag deployment, and pain in the chest area. Operation Life transported her to Hendricks Regional Health.

  • why has the Banner Graphic decided to run the scanner and court records on the News page instead of on the records page. One or both have been on the news page off and on over the last 3 weeks. Today both are on the news page, is this going to be a permanent change.
