PUTNAMVILLE -- A 23-year-old Missouri man and his passenger were injured in a one-vehicle rollover accident Friday morning on Interstate 70 in southwestern Putnam County, Indiana State Police at Putnamville reported.

Two people traveling from Ohio to Missouri were injured in a one-vehicle rollover accident on westbound Interstate 70 Friday.

The driver and passenger were transported to Terre Haute Regional Hospital with serious injuries that were not, however, believed to be life-threatening.

Indiana State Police and Putnam County emergency agencies responded to a one-vehicle rollover crash in the westbound lanes of I-70 near the 30-mile marker shortly after 8:30 a.m. Friday.

Preliminary investigation revealed a 1998 Ford Contour passenger car was westbound on I-70, just east of the Putnam-Clay county line, when the driver lost control of the vehicle on the wet pavement, ultimately going off the north side of the roadway and rolling over.

Unsafe speed appeared to be the cause of the accident with driver impairment reportedly a contributing factor, State Police officials said.

Driver Timothy Rich of Sikeston, Mo., reportedly suffered head and facial injuries in the crash and was admitted to the hospital.

Rich also tested positive for marijuana and various charges are pending against him, State Police said.

Approximately two grams of marijuana were found in the vehicle after the accident.

The passenger, Deshion Johnson, 21, also of Sikeston, Mo., suffered head and ankle injuries and was reportedly admitted to the hospital.

The pair were believed to have been en route from Ohio to Missouri due to the holiday.

The accident was investigated by ISP Trooper Yan Dravigne. Assisting were Putnam County Sheriff's Department officers and Putnam County Operation Life and Cloverdale Fire/Rescue personnel.
