Featured Athlete of the Week: Bethanie Burgeson, basketball Greencastle High School
Bethanie Burgeson was born on March 26, 1998 to Starla and Chuck Burgeson.
Burgeson is a senior basketball player at Greencastle High School who spends her offseasons working on basketball.
Her favorite subject in school is trigonometry and her favorite teacher is Tabatha Briones.
Burgeson enjoys watching Netflix, her favorite movie is "Stepbrothers" and her favorite artist is the Weeknd. She is also a Pacer fan and enjoys watching them play.
BG: What is different this year about being a senior?
BB: As a senior you have to be a leader. You have to be vocal. You have to help the younger girls and push them to get better.
BG: Who are some of your biggest supporters off the court?
BB: My mom and my dad and my brothers and sisters. They are my big supporters. They come to every game and it's just really cool. I love it. It really motivates me to play a better game and they really support me through it all.
BG: What is your favorite thing about your teammates?
BB: They are really supportive. They are fun to play with. We really gel together and I'm excited for the rest of the season.
BG: What has it been like with the seniors on the team who have been playing with coach Bradley Key for four years?
BB: It's a great feeling because we know each other. We've been together for four years so we know how each other plays. We really work well together. We are really close.
BG: What is your favorite thing about basketball?
BB: Defense.
BG: Not shooting threes?
BB: I love playing defense. I don't know. That's how you win games I think. I mean shooting threes also but defense is my favorite thing about basketball probably.
BG: Do you have a favorite moment playing at Greencastle?
BB: During County this year hitting the three to win county. It was super exciting. We knew we had to score and we were nervous but, it was awesome.
BG: What are your post high school plans?
BB: I wan t to go to college and I want to become a nurse. I'm going to focus on that in college. I'm looking at IUPUI or Ball State.
BG: What got you interested in nursing?
BB: My mom. She really influenced me to become a nurse. I got to intern at the (Putnam County) hospital.
