Public invited to decorate Our Heroes' Tree at PCPL

Sunday, December 6, 2015

The public is invited to honor service members by making an ornament for the Our Heroes' Tree at the Putnam County Public Library on Tuesday.

Ornaments made during the 6-8 p.m. event will be displayed on the tree in the PCPL lobby.

Supplies will be provided at no charge and refreshments will be served. Our Heroes' Tree is a national initiative that gives friends and families of U.S. service members a way to show their appreciation and to recognize and honor the sacrifices of current service members, veterans and deceased service members.

The program started in 2005 at West Point and has grown every year since. Participants may personalize ornaments with photographs of past or present service members, and other memorabilia that can be crafted into an ornament. They may also bring a veteran's ornament made at home to place on the tree.

Ornaments may be taken home at the end of the month or left to decorate the next year's tree.
