A close first half turned into a big deficit Friday night for the South Putnam boys' basketball team against Greencastle and once the Tiger Cubs took control of the game, they kept it, winning 63-32.

"They played really well in the first half. I thought in the second half we were able to get some runs that really extended that lead," GHS coach Troy Greenlee said. "We did a pretty good job of not letting them get back from those runs. The second half was about as good of a half we've played all year."

South Putnam's freshman Allen Plunkett did the heavy lifting in the first quarter, scoring 10 of the 13 Eagle points. GHS was only up by three after one but then held South Putnam to four points in the second.

The Tiger Cubs used good ball movement and aggressively attacked the basket against South Putnam. Greencastle went 6-7 from the line while South Putnam only drew one attempt, which Plunkett made.

"Fortunately for us we get a chance to go play again we can get back on the horse," SPHS coach Greg Dean said. "We've got to wash this taste out of our mouth. It wasn't a good experience. We turned the ball over somewhere around 30 times."

As the turnovers mounted for South Putnam the lead grew for Greencastle and though the offensive game focused heavily on Ryan Coble and Colin York, two Tiger Cubs who got hot in the second and third quarters respectively, GHS saw some good plays from the supporting cast and Greenlee will hope to build on that as the season progresses.

"I think we have guys who are starting to see that they are going to have opportunities to score and things like that," Greenlee said. "Once we have that figured out a bit more we'll be that much more difficult to play against."

Greencastle (2-3 1-1 WIC) will play at WIC West Division rival Sullivan (2-2, 1-1 WIC) next, while the Eagles (1-2 0-2 WIC) will travel to Southmont (2-3) Saturday night.
