Marcus D. Doll, 26, Roachdale, was also northbound in a 2005 Chevrolet Venture and attempted to pass Padgett in a painted double-yellow no-passing zone.

As Doll approached, Padgett found the address and tried to turn left. Doll did not see a turn signal and could not avoid a collision, striking the driver's side door of Padgett's van with his passenger side. Airbags deployed in both vehicles.

Land told Reserve Deputy Ken Rozelle he took his eyes off the road and when he looked up he was left of center. Land said he then overcorrected and struck the rear of Giles' truck.

The impact caused Giles to lose control, sending him left of center and making heavy front-end impact with a tree, causing the tree to come to rest on top of the truck.

A witness said it appeared Land had tried to pass Giles on a double-yellow line.

Giles had an abrasion to his chin but declined medical attention.
