Fajt promoted to district investigative commander at Putnamville

PUTNAMVILLE -- Indiana State Police Supt. Douglas G. Carter announced Monday the promotion of Det. Sgt. J. Jason Fajt of the Putnamville District to the rank of first sergeant, where he will serve as the district investigative commander.

In his new position, 1st Sgt. Fajt will oversee and command all district criminal investigations.

Fajt is a 27-year veteran of the ISP having graduated from the 46th Recruit Class in 1988.

He was assigned to the Putnamville District and patrolled the roadways of Putnam County for seven years. During this time, he served as an ISP Underwater Search and Recovery diver and obtained his Federal Methamphetamine Clandestine Lab certification.

In 1995, he was chosen to serve as an undercover drug detective and in 2000 obtained a detective position in criminal investigations at the Putnamville District. In 2004, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant and served the next four years as a crime scene investigator.

From 2008-12, Fajt served in the Training Division as a training coordinator. From 2012-14, he served in the Enforcement Division assisting with the managing of the department's Traffic Safety Grant and overseeing the department's role in the State Emergency Operation Center. In 2014, Fajt returned to the Putnamville District and served as an Investigative Squad Leader until his promotion to First Sergeant.

A Putnam County native, Fajt graduated from Greencastle High School and later, Vincennes University. He and his family reside in Putnam County.

Fajt received his promotion through written testing and a competitive interview process.
