North Putnam teams take holiday wins

Holiday tournaments yielded good results for Cougar fans when the boys' basketball team earned a win in the Bulldog Holiday Tournament. The Lady Cougars defeated the host team in the Speedway tournament 49-44.

After earning its second win against Riverton Parke, the Cougar boys took the first victory against Greenwood Christian 45-40.

North Putnam then lost to Indian Creek, which went undefeated in the tournament, before falling to Bethesda Christian.

The Lady Cougars took down Speedway on the Sparkplug floor after a 38-27 loss in the first game of the tournament.

Taylor Nauert recorded a double-double on the day with 20 points and 10 boards. North Putnam shot 39 percent from the floor and blocked nine shots.

North Putnam got off to a good start scoring 15 and 13 in the first and second quarters. The Cougars led 31-25 at halftime before the Sparkplugs opened the half with a 13-5 third quarter.

However, North Putnam responded with a 16-6 fourth quarter to earn the win.

Madisyn Smith scored 13 points, going 2-4 from long range. Emilee Henniger led NPHS in rebounds with 12.

The North Putnam girls' team (3-12, 0-4 WIC) will play Monday at North Montgomery (6-9). The Cougar boys' (3-7, 0-3 WIC) next match is at home against North Montgomery (6-3) Tuesday.
