Local veterans can schedule transportation to VA hospital, clinic

Sunday, January 3, 2016

Putnam County veterans can schedule free transportation to their appointments at Veterans Administration hospitals or clinics, local Veterans Service Officer Jerry Williamson has announced.

Those service veterans needing transportation to a VA clinic or to the Richard Roudebush VA Medical Center at Indianapolis may call 653-5417.

Veterans are asked to call to set up such transportation at least a week to 10 days in advance of their appointment.

Meanwhile, Williamson also said volunteer drivers are needed for the program. The volunteer drivers will use the Veterans Affairs Office vehicle and not their own for the transportation effort.

Volunteers do not have to be veterans to take part in the program, Williamson noted.
