Some hard work since the Putnam County wrestling tournament has yielded positive results for the North Putnam wrestling team against Turkey Run. In the new facility at Roachdale elementary the Cougars won 64-12.

"At this point in the season we are really working on making sure our fundamentals are honed in and we are trying to advance our skills and knowledge," NPHS coach Bucky Kramer said. "Last night that kind of showed our fundamentals were really solid. I'm happy with where a lot of the young kids are."

North Putnam took the win, only taking losses in two matches but many of the Cougar victories came by at least 10 points or tech fall.

The NPHS wrestling program has grown by more that 300 percent over the last four years according to Kramer and with renovations happening at the middle school and high school North Putnam decided it needed a bigger place to house the wrestling team.

"We worked out being able to use the Roachdale facility there in the gym and it's kind of our home now," Kramer said. "Our administration and our maintenance guys have been working pretty diligently on getting new locker rooms and our own space. It's been outstanding. Our kids and parents are really grateful for that."

The wrestling team will be spending some time away from its new home as the next four meets will be on the road with the next meet in the Brown County Invitational.

"Last year it was a really good match," Kramer said. "We got into that tournament last year so we could start to see, two years prior to the jump into the new conference, what the other conference schools were like. I hadn't seen any of those guys. We really enjoy that tournament. It'll be a good one."

The Brown County Invitational invites a number of WIC rivals to the mats at once including Brown County, Indian Creek, Northview as well as other schools like Manual, Seymour and Whiteland.

Kramer is happy to see his wrestlers continue to imrpove after the second-place finish at the county tournament and will only be hopinf to conitue getting better in preparation for the WIC Meet at Edgewood on Jan.23.
