Newlon breaks own record at Denison

GRANVILLE, Ohio ­-- The 11th-ranked DPU women's swim team wrapped up the weekend at third-ranked Denison and the Big Red topped DePauw, 196-95.

Angela Newlon broke her own school record in the 1,650-yard freestyle and won the event in 17:02.38. Newlon also was second in the 200 butterfly in 2:11.57 and the 500 free in 5:04.67.

Kirsten Olson won the 200 backstroke in 2:09.45 as did Emily Ward in the 200 individual medley in 2:23.88.

DePauw's 400 free relay of Bridges, Olson, Mary Woods and Newlon also won in 3:38.58.

Bridges placed second in the 50 free in 24.59 seconds, while Mary Woods did the same in the 100 fly in 1:00.73 and Jackie Gillum in the 200 IM in 2:29.98.

DePauw returns to action on Friday, January 15, when it faces Franklin College at Franklin High School.
