Carl Douglas Sparks, 72, of Danville, passed away on Friday, Jan. 8, 2016 at Danville Regional Rehab.

Carl is predeceased by his parents, Carl and Hazel (Henning) Sparks, brother Thomas and sister-in-law Helen Sparks, and brother James Sparks, and former sister-in-law Jean (Sparks) Kendall, along with two nephews, James Sparks Jr. and William Russell Sparks II.

Carl is survived by his loving wife, Sarah (Kelly), of 51 years. They were married in the Brick Chapel Methodist Church on Aug. 15, 1964.

Also surviving are brothers William Russell (Joyce) Sparks and Sherman (Elaine) Sparks, and a sister-in-law Donelda Sparks. He is survived by many nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.

Carl is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Kelly Sue (Sparks) Robertson with husband John, son Bradley Kent Tincher and companion Vicky, daughter Katherine Jean (Tincher) Rich, and daughter Nancy Jo (Tincher) Minardo with husband Joe.

Carl was born in Inkster, Mich., on April 22, 1943.

He graduated from Howe High School in 1961 and went on to join the workforce. His greatest job satisfactions were his days as a cobbler, the old-school way of repairing shoes, a trade he learned from his dad, and enjoyed doing with his brothers. He also enjoyed his security job days.

Carl enjoyed past trips to his hometown of Owensboro, Ky., where he was raised to visit family, attend the Burgoo festivals, family reunions, seeing old friends, and he enjoyed time with all the grandkids.

He never met a stranger, and didn't need a GPS or map to find places, he just knew the right route. He didn't let his heart stop from loving and caring for anyone despite lack of blood flowing through the veins. He enjoyed his neighbors of old and new during his Bainbridge and Danville years.

Carl was the proud grandpa/papaw to Megan (Robertson) Burdine and Jacob Robertson, Justin Tincher, Tiffany Monnett (Jeremy), Matthew Minardo (Stacie), Adrian Siddons (companion Lacy Chambers), Mike Minardo and Joey Minardo (Maria). He was glad to still be "grandpa" to Jessica Siddons, Stacey (Minardo) Thomas and Tim Burdine.

Great-grandkids he loved and claimed as his own are Carlee Burdine; Audree Tincher; Teegan and Ethan Monnett; Gage and Wyatt Minardo; Breanna and MaKayla Siddons, Shelby Barr, Jack and Alaina Chambers; Madison, Anthony and Devon Minardo; Sarah Minardo, Adam (Cammy) and Steven (Megan) Engle. He was also proud great-great-grandpa to Kaydence and Mason Engle.

Carl was very thankful to the family members who helped provide care at home, the Kindred at Home Hospice staff Jeannette, Earlene, Marsha and Tony; Danville Regional Rehab staff and his favorite nurses, Dolly and Ali; Danville Regional Hospital staff, Manor Care at Prestwick staff; American Health Network staff with special thanks to Dr. Poe, Dr. Bolla, Nurse Practitioner Molly Spearing and medical assistant Tosha.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16 at Bousley-Hays Funeral Home, Coatesville (www.bousley-hays.com).

The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. by Rev. Mindy Huffman and Hospice Chaplain Tony Schommer at the funeral home, located at 4980 N. Milton St., Coatesville. Burial will follow at the Bainbridge Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Kelly (Sparks) Robertson to help with the funeral expenses. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
