CLOVERDALE -- In the Putnam County seventh and eighth-grade tournament it was Greencastle and South Putnam who came out the big winners when GMS took the win over Cloverdale in the seventh-grade game and the Eagles won against Cloverdale in the eighth-grade game.

GMS came into the seventh-grade championship looking for its 14th straight win and was up to the task taking control of the game early against CMS and earning the win 57-20.

"They are a great group of guys who have worked really hard to get to this point," GMS coach Steve Moses said. "I'm proud of these guys. They've been together since the second grade."

Moses said the group has a long way to go and will be looking forward to seeing his Tiger Cubs accomplish more in the future.

"They probably aren't enjoying this win as much as they should because they are always hungry," Moses said. "They are always looking forward to the next step and the next game. They are always working. There is more to come."

The Tiger Cubs will be looking to complete their perfect season but will have to wait a while as they wont play their final game against Egdewood for a few weeks.

South Putnam's eighth-grade boys' team came stumbling onto the court but never faltered once the game started taking control and keeping a vise grip hold on the lead. The Eagles had success at both ends of the court all night taking the victory 46-9.

"We stressed this a lot that next year is going to be a big year for them," SPMS coach Jason Foxx said. "They've been together for quite some time and they play their guts out. Next year we've stressed that they have potential to maybe see some minutes on JV and varsity. So we've stressed it to play hard and play smart and they did it in both games in this tournament."
