Wittenburg defeats Tigers

An off-shooting night from the DePauw men's basketball team resulted in their third consecutive North Coast Athletic Conference loss on Wednesday as they fell to Wittenberg 65-42.

DePauw shot 27 percent from the floor (15-of-55), 24 percent from beyond the arc (5-of-21) and 44 percent from the free-throw line (7-of-16). Wittenberg was better in each category, shooting 46 percent (21-of-46) from the floor, 47 percent (8-of-17) from 3-point range and 71 percent (15-of-21) from the free throw line.

Wittenberg started the game with a 6-0 run, but DePauw fought back to make it 9-8 in the early goings of the game. However, Wittenberg went on another 6-0 run and ultimately led 30-21 by the end of the first half.

The second half got off to a better start with two consecutive scores on straight possessions for DePauw but another run by Wittenberg (12-2) gave them a 15-point lead with 15:21 remaining. Shortly after, DePauw went a span of almost four minutes without a field goal as Wittenberg continued to build their lead, which reached its peak at 23 late in the second half.

Wittenberg won the frontcourt advantage with 20 points in the paint and 43 rebounds. DePauw scored 10 points in the paint and pulled down 30 rebounds.

Luke Lattner led DePauw with a game-high 11 points. Nate Jahn added six points and Andrew Kus and David Vogel added five. Wittenberg was led Chad Roy who recorded 10 points and six rebounds.

DePauw drops to 6-8 overall and 2-5 in the NCAC. Wittenberg improves to 9-5 overall and 4-3 in conference play. DePauw is back in action Saturday when they host Ohio Wesleyan in the first of a men/women doubleheader.
