Stanley Eugene Carter

Stanley Eugene Carter, 80, Cloverdale, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016 at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis.

He was born on June 26, 1935 in Indianapolis, the son of Clarence Earl and Irmal (Michael) Carter.

Stanley married Lola (Littrell) Cross on June 9, 1963 and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 9, 2013.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Hugh M. Carter and two brothers in infancy.

He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during Korea.

Stanley retired from the Putnamville Correctional Facility in 2003, serving as a correctional officer for 48 years and two months. He was recognized with an outstanding contribution distinguished honor on May 1, 2003, which was for serving the Department of Correction for longer than any other employee. He also received the State of Indiana Sagamore of the Wabash from Gov. Frank O'Bannon on May 9, 2003.

He was a member of the Amity Baptist Church for over 50 years and had served in several offices in the church.

Stanley loved spending time with his family and working on his farm.

Surviving are his wife Lola; his daughter Jannetta (Carter) Wolfe of Cloverdale; his stepsons Ronald (Terri) Cross of Greencastle and Michael (Liz) Cross of Knightstown, his sister-in-law, Eileen (Henson) Carter of Dadeville, Mo.; three stepgrandchildren, Krystal (Ted) Baker, Blake Cross (fiancée Shelby Bonebrake) and Bobi (Josh) Brancamp; and three step-great-grandchildren, Brystal Robertson, Landon and Alexander Brancamp.

Funeral Services will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19 at the Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale. Visitation will be held on Monday, Jan. 18 from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Cloverdale Cemetery.
