City Police

Two recent traffic accidents were investigated by Greencastle City Police officers.

* At 6:24 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, a four-vehicle accident resulted in injury to a Greencastle driver.

Officer Nick Eastham actually was on patrol in the area of State Road 240 near Zinc Mill Road and witnessed the accident unfold.

He reported that a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, driven by Matthew Malayer, 22, Roachdale, slid on the snow-covered roadway, sliding approximately 200 feet in the eastbound lane.

Behind Malayer, Lawrence Clifford, 40, Greencastle, was driving a 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix and initially managed to avoid hitting the Malayer vehicle.

However, a 2008 GM Sierra, driven by Christian Williams, 24, Poland, was unable to stop and slid into the Clifford car, pushing it into the rear of the Malayer vehicle.

A fourth vehicle, a 1999 GM, driven by Danny McIntosh, 39, Coal City, managed to avoid the three vehicles in front of him but slid off the south side of the roadway where the vehicle had to be pulled out of the ditch by a wrecker.

Clifford suffered a lacerated forehead and was transported to Putnam County Hospital via Operation Life ambulance.

Total damage in the accident was estimated at $10,000-$25,000.

* At 5:15 p.m. Friday, Jan.15, a three-vehicle mishap was reported on Indianapolis Road near 10th Street.

Preston Lady, 19, Greencastle, was eastbound on Indianapolis Road, approaching the stoplight at 10th Street when his foot reportedly slipped off the brake pedal.

That allowed Lady's 1998 Chevrolet truck to strike the rear of a 2011 Toyota Corolla, driven by Amanda Woods, 35, Coatesville, which in turn was pushed into the rear of a 2004 Dodge Caravan, driven by J. Michael Culley, 47, Clayton.

Officer Eastham estimated total damage in the accident at $5,000-$10,000.
