Cauy Thomas wins WIC title
ELLETTSVILLE -- All four county wrestling teams were in action Saturday this time at Edgewood high school for the WIC conference meet and Greencastle fared best, coming in third with 165 points behind Edgewood and Sullivan.
North Putnam placed ninth, South Putnam earned 11th and Cloverdale took 12th.
Cauy Thomas (31-3) had the best performance for the Tiger Cubs earning the blue ribbon in the 106 weight class. He earned a win by fall on North Putnam's Shawn McLaughlin (8-4) in the semifinal and a major decision over an Edgewood wrestler in the first-place match.
Trae Carrington (28-5) placed second at 138 with a 28-5 win over Seth Hancock (29-6) from Sullivan in the semifinal before falling in the major decision to Cale McCoy (32-1) of Northview.
Joe January in the 285 class, Jacob Meyer at 160 and Ethan Tuggle at 120 all took third for Greencastle.
North Putnam's Bobby Phillips (18-11) placed second for North Putnam following a win over January in the semifinal. Phillips fell in the first-place match against Kell Williams (23-8) from Sullivan.
In the 106 weight class, Sham McLaughlin earned third after hisloss to the class champion. McLaughlin won by decision in the consolation semifinal and then beat Sullivan's Charlie Archer (19-13) in a sudden victory.
Will Cruse (10-2) earned the best finish for South Putnam, taking second. He fought his way to the 195 class first-place match against Ty Robinson (32-3) before falling to the Edgewood wrestler.
Jacob Lorimer earned third for the Eagles. After falling in the semifinal he defeated a Cascade wrestler in the consolation semis and then earned the injury default win in the third-place match.
Cloverdale's Kylar Galloway (16-10) fought his was to the title match to a second-place finish at 160. He pinned an Owen Valley wrestler and then beat Jacob Meyer (18-10) from Greencastle in the semifinal. He lost to Eyan Coldren (22-11) from Edgewood in the first-place match.
