The maintenance crew at McAnally Center will have to replace the nets in the gym prior to the next Greencastle basketball game. The Brown County Eagles and the Tiger Cubs burned up those nets Friday night in a Western Indiana Conference boys' basketball game.

Brown County came out victorious in a matchup of fourth-place teams from each division. The Eagles defeated the Tiger Cubs 74-67 in overtime.

The teams shot 52-of-88 from the floor for 59 percent from the field. The loss left Greencastle with a 7-7 record.

"If you were a fan this was a great game to watch. It was exciting and the ball went in the basket a lot. It was unfortunate we couldn't get the win," Greencastle coach Troy Greenlee said.

Greencastle's Ryan Coble hit a runner in the lane with :04 left to play in regulation to force overtime at 63-63, but the Tiger Cubs missed a couple of shots early in the overtime period and the Eagles hit 7-of-8 free throws down the stretch to win the game.

"We put some pressure on them and forced some turnovers in the second half. That got us back in the game. I don't know if we got tired or what, but we couldn't finish," Greenlee said.

The Eagles looked as though they would run away with the game early. They hit 8-of-10 shots in the first quarter, including all five of their three-point attempts to take a 21-15 lead. Mark Redmond hit three of those treys in the first four minutes of the game.

The Eagles stretched their lead in the second quarter as they switched tactics from shooting from beyond the arc, to getting the ball inside. Brown County didn't attempt a three-pointer in the quarter, but hit seven field goals and boosted their lead to 35-26 at the halftime break.

The Tiger Cubs forced Brown County to turn the ball over three of the first four possessions of the second half. Greencastle used a 15-2 run to start the second half as it began using a full-court press.

"My thought was we weren't playing very hard defensively in the first half. I told the guys (at halftime) we might get beat by 50 or get back in the game," Greenlee said.

The two teams battled throughout the fourth quarter. Neither team could put together a run to provide separation. The two teams were never separated by more than three points in the quarter.

Although the Cubs battled back and led in the second half, the Eagles still kept up their hot shooting. Brown County hit an amazing 13-of-19 shots in the second half, including overtime. Collin Hoskins had 13 of his team-high 27 points in the second half and overtime. Jordan Samples scored 15 points and Matt Redmond added 13 for the Eagles.

"We have to figure some things out defensively. There is no magic bullet, but we've got to get better," Greenlee said.

Greencastle was led by Colin York with 27 points. The sophomore guard hit 7-of-11 from downtown to lead the Cubs. Ryan Coble had 24 points in support.

"I told him (York) before the game, I considered him a junior with the amount of games he has played for us and he needed to step up. He did that tonight. He hit some shots, he was aggressive on offense and was very involved. A great night for him," Greenlee said.

The Tiger Cubs must recover quickly as they travel Saturday to Tri-West to take on the Bruins.
