The Monrovia Bulldogs came to Greencastle on a Thursday night looking for a win over the Tigers Cubs. They were denied as the Tiger Cubs pulled it out, 58-47.

"I thought that we played well at times," Greencastle coach Troy Greenlee said. "We did not shoot the ball particularly well from the perimeter but we made enough plays going to the basket and kept the lead."

Greencastle senior Ryan Coble and junior Nick Costin had the hot hands on the night scoring 40 of the 57 points for Greencastle. Costin hit 4-of-6 from deep in the game. Coble scored 20 of his points in the paint.

Monrovia junior guard Luke Smith did all he could to keep his team in it but eventually could not do everything for Monrovia. He had no points at halftime but really turned it on in the second half to try and get back in the game. Smith finished with 14 points in the game.

"(Costin) was fantastic on both ends of the floor," Greenlee said. "We let him guard Smith, who is averaging 25 a game, and he did not score in the first half. Costin really played well and he hit four threes and stepped up for us."

The game was close throughout but Monrovia (7-9) did not have the firepower that Greencastle (9-7) did. Greencastle came out of the gate and went on a 11-2 run and opened the game up early and all Monrovia could do was play catch up.

The zone and man-to-man combination for the Tiger Cubs defense kept the Bulldogs out of the lane and they struggled to get anything going to the basket besides on fast breaks in the first half and it looked like it would be well on the way to a blowout. The Bulldogs battled and brought the halftime deficit to just 26-19.

"I thought it was OK and we are getting a little bit better," Greenlee said. "We are still letting guys get to the basket too easy but I thought it was better but we still have a ways to go defensively."

The Tiger Cubs came out of halftime on a tear, scoring 14 points in less than four minutes to force a timeout by the Bulldogs and extended their lead to 40-26.

The Bulldogs battled back though and made it close in the fourth quarter. They cut the lead to 46-41 with five minutes remaining after junior Luke Seber hit a basket.

That was as close as the Bulldogs came as the Tiger Cubs went on a 12-6 run to close out the game and take the victory 58-47.

Greencastle was led by Coble with 23 points and followed by Costin with 17. Coble also had eight rebounds and six assists.

With a big match up against Brown County on Saturday the Tiger Cubs will look to avenge their loss earlier in the season.

"We got beat by them in overtime last week," Greenlee said. "It will be something we will have to come in and do a little bit better than last time."
