Faculty Select Series: The Fourth Wall

Wednesday, March 2

7:30 p.m.

Green Center, Thompson Recital Hall

It's not every music ensemble that earns praise for "deft choreography" in The Wall Street Journal. Part new music group, part circus troupe, The Fourth Wall commissions new interdisciplinary works and reinterprets established repertoire to make music that leaps off the stage. In its debut performance at DePauw, the ensemble will present a preview of the daring new chamber opera Vassal of the Sun, incorporating text from Moby Dick, sea chantey melody, dance and acrobatics to explore themes of mortality, striving and loss central to Herman Melville's novel.

DePauw Opera: "Little Women"

Mark Adamo, composer

Joachim Schamberger, director

Orcenith Smith, musical director

Thurs--Sat, March 3--5 at 7:30 p.m.

Sunday, March 6 at 2 p.m.

Green Center, Moore Theatre

Louisa May Alcott's Civil War coming-of-age book is brought to musical life by composer Mark Adamo in this DePauw Opera production of "Little Women," direct by Joachim Schamberger and conducted by Orcenith Smith. The outspoken Jo, the story's most vivid character, struggles against her own growth and that of her sisters, knowing deep down that growing up means growing apart and that adulthood will take them away from their perfect childhood home.
