County Jail

Two people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, Tara Marie Thompson, 33, Cloverdale, was lodged at the jail for probation violation and theft.

At 5:05 a.m. Chris Lee Mitchell, 34, Cloverdale, was housed at the jail on a Marion County warrant.

City Police

Greencastle City Police officers were called to a Vine Street apartment on a disturbance early Friday and ended up arresting two suspects who left the scene.

Capt. Charles Inman and Officer Matt Huffman responded to 109 S. Vine St. where Clint Joseph Byrd, 19, Greencastle, was allegedly trying to force his way into an apartment.

Authorities reported Byrd eventually got inside but was quickly shoved back out by the occupants, who warned him the police had been called.

In the interim, as Officer Huffman arrived, he found Kristopher M. Hardy, 32, Greencastle, was walking swiftly away from the scene and the officer told him to stop so he could talk to him.

Hardy did not comply with the officer's orders and kept taking his hand in and out of his pocket, authorities said.

Finally after warning the suspect to stop or he would use his taser, Officer Huffman did stun Hardy, bringing him to the ground.

Hardy was taken to the Putnam County Jail on charges of resisting law enforcement, possession of a syringe and possession of marijuana with a prior offense, as well as a Marion County warrant stemming from original charges of possession of methamphetamine, being a felon carrying a handgun and unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted domestic batterer.

Hardy was also wanted on two Putnam County warrants for failure to appear.

Meanwhile, Byrd reportedly ran from the scene and Capt. Inman took him into custody behind the post office off Walnut Street.

Byrd, who was also taken to the Putnam County Jail, is facing charges of residential entry, criminal mischief and false informing. The latter count stems from Byrd reportedly giving police a false name.
