DePauw to host women's Special Olympics basketball

Sunday, March 6, 2016

The weekend of March 12-13, DePauw University Panhellenic will host the Indiana Special Olympics Women's Basketball Tournament.

The event started in 1986 after a Greencastle resident and Special Olympics employee recognized a need for more women's programming.

Special Olympics Indiana hosts the largest Special Olympics women's basketball competition in the world with this being the only tournament of its kind in the United States.

This weekend DePauw will host 32 teams and more than 320 athletes.

DePauw Panhellenic hosts the event along with help from other organizations on campus, including Student Athlete Advisory Committee, Interfraternity Council, Exalt Gospel Choir, Multicultural Greek Council and National Pan-Hellenic Council.

Anyone who would like to show their support for Indiana Special Olympics is urged to come out and cheer on the athletes. The games begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday and at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
