DPU lacrosse team wins three straight

GRAND RAPIDS , Mich. - DePauw scored the game's first 10 goals and never trailed on the way to a 20-7 win over Calvin at Grand Rapids Christian High School. The Tigers improved to 3-1 with their third straight win, while the Knights dropped to 2-2 with the loss.

DePauw scored just 27 seconds into the contest with Matthew Dauw giving the Tigers the lead on an assist from Ryan Thomas. The Tigers ended the first quarter with a 5-0 advantage.

The lead reached 10-0 after Ben Sherman scored on Steen Jorgensen's assist with 8:27 remaining in the half. DePauw took an 11-3 advantage into the intermission.

DePauw outscored the Knights, 3-1, in the third to extend the lead to 14-4 and continued the dominance in the final period with a 6-3 margin.

Sam Alkema paced DePauw with four goals, while Sherman and Nate Greenberg each added three. In all, 11 Tigers scored at least one goal. Sherman added five assists with Jorgensen totaling three.

Joe Musto stopped eight shots for DePauw, while Connor Patterson recorded three saves.

Jonathan Miller led the Knights with four goals with Nate Ray adding a pair. Miller also assisted on two scores. Calvin's Tristan Parece had 22 saves for Calvin.

Eric Speer paced DePauw with five of its 40 ground balls with Ethan Brown totaling seven of Calvin's 21. Jimmy DiBiase won seven faceoffs for DePauw with Grant Skipper and Joe Garvey each finishing with six as the Tigers won 19 of the 30. DePauw had 20 turnovers to the Knights' 21.

DePauw opens North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday, March 19, when it hosts Kenyon at 2 p.m.
