Letter to the Editor

Thanks for aiding local Red Cross chapter

Thursday, March 17, 2016

To the Editor:

The Putnam County Leadership Team of the American Red Cross wishes to thank all those who participated and attended our recent annual Chili Supper.

This event and its success would not be possible without the help and support of the Putnam County community.

Special gratitude and recognition goes to our sponsor, The Waters of Greencastle, and our partners, Sounds Unlimited, National Guard Armory, Delta Theta Ta, Putnam Inn, Him & Her, Boy Scout Troop 99, Dairy Castle, Thomas Pizza King, First National Bank, Mill Pond Health Campus, Putnam County Hospital and Wabash Capital.

We would also like to thank the many donors to the silent auction: All-American Karate Academy, Autumn Glen, Beefcake Burgers, Chiyoda, DePauw University, Eitel's Florist, Greencastle Hometown Dental, Have-a-Heart (Jeff Rich), Humphrey's Outdoor Power, Indianapolis Children's Museum, Indianapolis Indians Baseball, Indiana Pacers, Indiana State Museum, Indianapolis Colts, Jameson Coffee, Mason Jewelers, Mill Pond Health Campus, Putnam County Hospital, Purdue Athletics, Bev and Reggie Ross, Snap Fitness, Thirty One/Margaret Crowley, The Waters of Greencastle and York Automotive.

We couldn't do it without the coverage of our media partners, signage by Chuck Phillips, WREB radio, Banner Graphic as well as support and attendance from our local first-responders; Putnam County Sheriff's Department, Operation Life, EMA and CERT teams, Greencastle Police Department, Greencastle Fire Department and of course everyone's friend, Sparky.

This fundraiser is critical mission as we aim to reach, teach impact and help change lives. It may be a disaster -- from a home fire that impacts a single family to a flood that affects an entire community. It may be a call to save a life when someone is choking or having a heart attack. Or, it may be a family looking to get in touch with a service member about an emergency at home or help coping with the difficulties of deployment. That's your Red Cross working 24 hours a day.

Within the past year in Putnam County, the Red Cross helped 11 families who lost the use of their home to a fire with an average cost of $2,500 per family of four. We "saved the day" by assisting 13 military families stay connected to a loved one serving in the Armed Services.

Your support to our fundraising efforts helps to offset our costs to providing these services to our community and our neighbors. We thank you for your generosity and pray that each of you will remain safe and not need our services. But if you do, the American Red Cross will be there to assist.

If you were not able to attend our event but would like to send a donation, you may do so at P.O. Box 793, Greencastle, IN 46135.
