Gregg, Fidler set for Democrat kickoff April 3

Sunday, March 20, 2016

BAINBRIDGE -- Indiana gubernatorial candidate John Gregg will be in town on Sunday, April 3 when the Putnam County Democratic Party sponsors its 2016 Putnam County Kickoff.

An evening of fun, door prizes, music and more has been scheduled to kick off the campaign of Greencastle resident Kim Fidler for District 44 state representative.

Fidler, a South Putnam High School Spanish teacher for 16 years, has been a UniServ director for the Indiana State Teachers Association for the past 10 years.

The kickoff event will take place from 4-6:30 p.m. at the Bainbridge Community Center, located on the north side of U.S. 36, west of the CSX Railroad tracks.

There also will be a reception from 4-4:30 p.m. with a cash bar available.

An Italian dinner will be included, catered by the Putnam Inn.

Cost for tickets is $15 per person. Children 10 and under will be admitted free, and do not need tickets.

Gregg, a lifelong resident of Sandborn in rural Knox County, has spent more than 30 years in private business and public life.

He was elected in 1986 to represent Southwest Indiana and served in the Indiana House of Representatives for 10 years before being elected Speaker of the House in 1996. He served six years as speaker.

In 2012, Gregg re-entered the political arena and was the Democrat nominee for governor of Indiana, coming up just short of victory in the closest race for that office in 50 years.

In May 2015, he announced plans to seek the governorship again.

In addition to Gregg, special guests at the April 3 kickoff are slated to include Democrat District 35 State Senate candidate Phil Webster, a former North Putnam and Decatur Central high school baseball coach.

Tickets for the kickoff event should be ordered in advance from Fidler at 765-720-0360 or kfidler@ista-in.org .
