City Police

Three underage individuals will be summoned into court to face charges of being minors in consumption of alcohol following a recent incident investigated by Greencastle City Police.

* At about 1:30 a.m. Friday, March 18, Capt. Charles Inman reported that the Safe Ride program had dropped off three riders near the Inn at DePauw but the driver watched as they instead headed over to Boulder Run on South Jackson Street.

It was there that Capt. Inman encountered three minors:

-- Molly Brennan, 18, Western Springs, Ill., who had .149 percent blood-alcohol under portable breathalyzer testing.

-- Frederick Sprunger, 20, Indianapolis, who registered .097 percent blood-alcohol under portable breathalyzer testing

-- Harrison Bell, 19, Elmhurst, Ill., who had .08 percent blood-alcohol under portable breathalyzer testing.

Five recent traffic citations were issued by city officers.

* At 3:07 p.m. Tuesday, Mark Thistlethwaite, 47, Rockville, was ticketed by Officer Nick Eastham.

Thistlethwaite was cited for disregarding a stopsign at Robinwood Place and Shadowlawn Avenue.

* At 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, Craig Edwards, 53, Greencastle, was given two citations by Capt. Chris Jones.

Stopped on Bloomington Street, Edwards was ticketed for having an expired license plate (April 21, 2015) and for a seatbelt violation.

* At 2 p.m. Tuesday, Cody Cox, 28, Greencastle, received a pair of citations from Capt. Jones.

Stopped at Percy Julian Drive and Avenue C, Cox was ticketed for disregarding a stop sign and for an infraction of driving with a suspended license.

Sheriff's Department

The Putnam County Sheriff's Department investigated one recent accident.

* At 4:23 a.m. on Wednesday, James B. Franklin, 45, Centerpoint, hit a deer while driving a 2000 Jeep Wrangler north on County Road 450 West.

Deputy Mike Downing reported damage of $1,000- $2,500 to the front driver's side, but no injuries were reported.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to 10 dispatches and two lift assists.

* At 9:11 p.m. on Friday, GFD was called to 60 S. CR 100 East for an unauthorized burn started by kids.

* At 12:05 a.m. Saturday, GFD responded to a structure fire at 5928 W. CR 375 South in Madison Township.

* At 8:45 p.m. Sunday, GFD investigated a fire alarm at 1014 S. College Ave. The alarm had been triggered by a faulty detector in the residence.

* At 12:44 a.m. Monday, GFD responded to a smoke scare at CR 125 S. 1150 W. Upon arrival, nothing was found.

* At 3:43 a.m. Monday, GFD was called 522 Anderson St. to a carbon monoxide alarm. After investigation, no problem was found.

* At 11:46 a.m. Monday, GFD responded to a gas leak at 212 S. Arlington St. when an excavator hit a gas line. GFD secured the gas line until maintenance arrived.

* At 7:27 p.m. Monday, GFD was called to 105 W. Hanna St. for a fire alarm due to cooking.

* At 4:08 p.m. Wednesday, GFD investigated a fire at 8 Park St. The outside fire was extinguished prior to the arrival of GFD, who verified that no damage had occurred.

* At 9:12 a.m. Thursday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 208 E. Olive St. The alarm had been triggered by a dirty detector head.

* At 10:53 a.m. Thursday, GFD investigated a fire alarm at Eli's bookstore, 6 E. Washington St. Upon arrival, GFD found water coming down a wall and into the alarm panel.
