County Jail

Two people were booked in the Putnam County jail on Thursday.

* At 3:25 p.m. Erica Kay Thompson, 39, Greencastle, was housed at the jail on a warrant.

* At 9:40 p.m. Austin Tyler Edward Sawyer, 20, West Terre Haute, was taken into custody on a warrant.

Sheriff's Department

Putnam County sheriff's deputies responded to four recent property-damage crashes.

* At 9:58 a.m. on Wednesday, Mark Biggs, 58, Greencastle, was eastbound on West Walnut, approaching County Road 150 West in a 1991 Ford Ranger. Elizabeth Gibbs, 31, Greencastle, was westbound prepraring to turn left in a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt.

Biggs told Deputy Virgil Lanning that Gibbs turned in front of him and he could not avoid the collision. Gibbs told Lanning she did not see Biggs' vehicle approaching before she turned.

No injuries were reported.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000. Gibbs' vehicle was towed.

* At 11:20 a.m. on Wednesday, Alexander J. Teckenbrock, 17, Roachdale, was eastbound on County Road 425 East in a 2007 Nissan Xterra.

Teckenbrock told Deputy Lanning he lost control entering a 90-degree turn and slid off the right side of the road, hitting a utility pole with the right rear of the vehicle.

The SUV suffered heavy rear and undercarriage damage and was towed.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 5:50 a.m. on Thursday, William M. Wilder, 47, Milan, Mich., was westbound on Interstate 70 near the 36-mile marker in a 2000 International 940.

Wilder told Deputy Lanning he served to miss a deer but hit the guardrail instead.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Kevin C. Richardson, 47, Rockville, was eastbound on U.S. 36 in a 1998 Dodge Durango.

Richardson told Sgt. Kyle Gibbons he lost traction on the muddy road and exited the roadway, making side impact with a highway sign post.

The sign post was not damaged but caused moderate vehicle damage along the right side.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to one dispatch.

* At 9:06 p.m. on Thursday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 904 S. College Ave. GFD determined the alarm had been set off by a malfunctioning detector head and subsequently reset the alarm.
