Purdue Club announces spring program

The Purdue Club of Putnam County has announced its spring meeting will feature Dr. Fred Whitford, professor of botony and plant pathology at Purdue University.

The meeting will be held at Autumn Glen Retirement Center, 98 W. 10th St. in Greencastle. Registration will begin at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19 with dinner served at 6:30 p.m. Cost of the meal is $20 per person.

Whitford has received many honors while leading the Purdue pesticide training program. He has been named an Honorary Master Farmer by Prairie Farmer and Purdue University and has received the Frederick L. Hovde Award of Excellence in educational service to the rural people of Indiana.

Named an Outstanding Extension Faculty Specialist, Whitford has also twice received the Award of Achievement from the Midwest Regional Turf foundation.

In addition to his professional work at Purdue, Whitford is the author of four books. A leader in 4-H of Tippecanoe County, Whitford dedicates much of his free time to working with the youth in his community.

The public is invited to attend.

No membership in the Purdue Club of Putnam County is required to attend and enjoy entertainment and a wonderful meal served by the Autumn Glen staff.
