* At 6:17 a.m. on Monday, Travis R. Shoulders, 35, Greencastle, was southbound on U.S. 231 near County Road 200 North in a 2014 Ford Taurus.

Shoulders told Capt. Tom Helmer he was trying to pass another vehicle when he hydroplaned on the rain-soaked pavement. Shoulders lost control of the vehicle, which crossed the northbound lane and left the roadway on the east side.

The car then crossed the grass shoulder and a small ditch, causing it to roll over and slide across the shoulder before returning to its wheels and stopping facing west approximately 25 feet from the road.

Shoulders was covered in mud and grass but was uninjured. The car had to be towed.

Later that afternoon, Helmer received a call from Chris McGaughey of Bainbridge, who was apparently the driver of the vehicle Shoulders was trying to pass. McGaughey told Helmer the car came up on him very fast and passed him.

After Shoulders lost control, McGaughey said he slammed on his brakes to avoid a collision.

Inspecting his vehicle later in the daylight, McGaughey discovered his windshield was broken, apparently from debris kicked up by the out-of-control vehicle.

Damage was estimated at $10,001-$25,000.

* At 7:30 p.m. Friday, Brad Laughin, 49, Avon, was westbound on U.S. 40 near County Road 800 West in a 2015 Hyundai Sonata when he hit a deer.
