Clover softball wins Thursday
After a close loss in nine innings to Monrovia Cloverdale's softball team pulled out a win at Brown County Thurday 4-1. The Clovers used a three-run inning to go up 3-1 against the Eagles and added another one in the fifth for good measure.
"We were able to put together another solid night and improved to 3-2, 1-0 in the WIC," Clover coach Jim Spencer said. The low-scoring game was a function of good play in the field as Lauren Meek only ptched three strikeouts with just one walk.
Sklar Price netted two singles, a double and two RBIs. Kiley Shedron recorded two singles and a double and Kimmy Winders put up two singles as well as an RBI.
In Wednesday's game Monrovia defeated the visitors by scoring big runs late in the game. The Bulldogs defeated the Clovers 6-5 in nine innings.
"We played really well for eight of the nine innings and did a lot of good things tonight at the plate, on the bases and in the field," Spencer said. "We just have to keep getting better at avoiding the big inning."
Meek was on the mound for all nine innings for the Clovers recording six strikeouts and just four walks.
Kelsey Helterbrand, Shedron and Meek each recorded two singles with Shedron and Meek earning RBIs.
