Gowen, Steffy get principal posts for South schools
The South Putnam Community School Corporation Board Tuesday night unanimously appointed two principals and one assistant principal to positions at Fillmore and Central elementaries and South Putnam Jr./Sr. High School.
Todd Gowen was appointed the principal for Central Elementary. He has been the assistant principal at the high school for the last two years and was a principal for many years before coming to South Putnam School Corporation.
Coming to Fillmore is Debbie Steffy, who has served as the principal at Central Elementary for six years and taught at the high school several years before that. She has been appointed to succeed Fillmore Principal Bradley Hayes, who will be retiring at the end of this school year after 20 years of service.
The board unanimously approved Hayes' retirement during its March meeting. He received thanks for his many years of dedication from Superintendent Bruce Bernhardt and Board President Wes Hacker, to which he responded, "It's been a good run. Thank you for your support."
Meanwhile, Zachary Love, a teacher at the high school for the last six years, was named assistant principal for the high school. He has been a teacher at the high school for the last six years and recently completed an internship for his administrative license.
All appointments will take place for the start of the 2016-17 school year.
