Eagle tennis team plays Vikings

The West Vigo team got the better of the Eagles Monday after South Putnam came in second at the West Vigo Invite Saturday. West Vigo swept the home team 5-0.

"The matches were closer than the score indicates," Eagle coach John Briones said. "Rutz battled back and finished strong. Both doubles were very competitive and are improving their communication skills."

On Saturday the Eagle singles players were three for three in first round games which helped South Putnam to its 12 points behind West Vigo's 19. Lena Rutz won 6-3, 6-1 over Linton, Alex Lesko took down a Turkey run player 7-6 and 6-3 and Adi Clifford also defeated a Warrior 6-1, 6-3. Each Eagles however fell in the title match to West Vigo 6-1, 6-0

The No. 1 doubles team of Allison Bunton and Meredith Trump took the win over Linton 6-0 , 6-4 and the No. 2 doubles team fell twice.

Rutz put up a game in her rematch against Elysia William Monday but ultimately lost 6-0, 7-5. Bunton and Trump also played a close second game losing 6-0 and 6-4.

South Puntam has two days off before its match against Edgewood on Thursday and then Plainfield on the road Friday.
