CLOVERDALE -- The Cloverdale boys' baseball team hosted the Edgewood Mustangs in a matchup of Western Indiana Conference teams on Tuesday evening. The Clovers had traveled to Edgewood the night before and lost the conference game 10-0. The Clovers hoped for a better outcome this time around, but it was not to be.

The powerful Mustangs put up four runs in the first inning and never looked back on their way to a 15-3 five-inning victory.

"In the first inning we had five errors and gave up four runs. We then held them and held them until the dam broke with more errors," Cloverdale coach Tony Meyer said.

The Clovers held the potent Edgewood offense to one run in the second and third innings, but couldn't contain them after that. The Mustangs scored four runs in the fourth inning and added six more in the fifth inning.

Cloverdale's Jaren Rossok and Parker Watts battled from the mound, but the WIC leading Mustang bats were to strong.

"We threw freshman and they stayed with it tonight," Meyer said.

The Clovers, who were shut out the night before, swung the bat better on this night. The Clovers picked up a run in the third and two more in the fourth inning. The Clovers kept putting the ball in play.

"We tried to come back, but had some base running errors. I was most proud that we were swinging the bat. We put the ball into play. We were going up there looking to do something," Meyer said.

The Clovers put up four hits on the night, with Josiah Watson leading the way with a double and a run scored. Cloverdale put the ball into play all night, but couldn't get the key hit when they needed it.

"When we stopped thinking, we got into trouble. We are so young and we are going to make those mistakes. They are correctable mistakes. When you make that many mistakes against a good team like them, this is what happens," Meyer said.

It doesn't get any easier for the young Clovers, who are now 4-9 on the season. They will host another WIC opponent in West Vigo on Friday.

EHS 4 1 0 6 4 -- 15
