Allee Family exhibit opening Saturday at museum

Friday, April 22, 2016

The Putnam County Museum will be honoring another of our "Founding Families" as the Allee Family Exhibit opens this Saturday, April 23.

Todd Crosby will be the opening day speaker with his comments scheduled for 10 a.m. at the museum, 1105 N. Jackson St.

Col. John Allee migrated to Indiana from Kentucky in 1830. During that transformative year, he purchased section 16 (640 acres) in Jefferson Township, and married Lucretia Pruitt. The couple would have 10 children and support their family with subsistence farming and Col. John's work on the original National Road.

Much of the original homestead land is owned by Col. John's descendants. Family land, over time, was generously donated for New Providence Baptist Church, a community cemetery and other local needs.

Significant contributors to the family exhibit include John and Judy Crosby, Ann Magee and Tami VanRenssaleer. Join them this weekend at the Putnam County Museum for a trip into our county's formative years.
