Area 30 to host Putnam County Tox-Away Day

Monday, April 25, 2016

The Putnam County Tox-Away Day will be at Area 30 Career Center in Greencastle on Saturday, May 14 from 8 a.m to 1 p.m. rain or shine.

Area 30 is located off State Road 240, north of the Calbert Way stoplight.

The annual event is an opportunity for residents of Putnam, Parke and Montgomery counties to dispose of old chemicals, paints, tires, appliances and electronics in a way that is both environmentally and user-friendly.

It's free to drop off all but televisions, which carry a $10 charge.

Residents should remain in their cars while workers remove the items for them.

Tox-Away Day is sponsored by the West Central Solid Waste District, which spends $25,000 for each one-day collection event.

The program is also supported by Putnam County board representatives Councilman Gene Beck, Commissioner Don Walton and Greencastle Mayor Bill Dory.

There will also be Tox-Away Days at North Montgomery High School in Crawfordsville on June 18 and the Parke County Fairgrounds in Rockville Sept. 17.

For more information on the event and acceptable items, persons may visit www.westcentralswd.com or call 800-211-2750.
