City Police

Two recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

* At 9:19 p.m. Wednesday, April Snow, 33, Greencastle, was arrested on a Putnam County warrant stemming from an original charge of operating a motor vehicle with a blood-alcohol content of .15 percent or greater.

Taken into custody by Reserve Officer Billy Wallace at an Avenue C residence, Snow was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

* At 8:27 p.m. Sunday, Chelsea Gallagher, 24, Greencastle, was arrested on a Morgan County warrant for auto theft.

Gallagher, who was lodged in the Putnam County Jail, was taken into custody at an East Liberty Street address by Officer Elsiana Crosby.

City officers also investigated four recent traffic accidents.

* At 10:02 a.m. Thursday, a two-vehicle accident was reported at Mill Pond Lane near Percy Julian Drive as William Reeves, 80, Greencastle, was leaving a nearby business parking lot at the wheel of a 2000 Chevrolet Suburban.

Reeves told Officer Nick Eastham he had a coughing attack as he neared the intersection and hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, causing his vehicle to strike a 2002 Saturn driven by Candace Weiland, 41, Reelsville, that was westbound on Mill Pond Lane.

The Reeves vehicle continued across the roadway, jumped the curb at the Greencastle Community School Corporation administration building and came to rest in a grassy area with a broken rear axle assembly.

Total damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

* At 6:10 p.m. Tuesday, a three-vehicle accident occurred on Indianapolis Road, west of 10th Street on the city's East Side.

Christopher Rood, 25, Reelsville, was westbound, driving a 1999 Ford F-250 truck, when he reportedly failed to see that a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Clayton Byrd, 19, Greencastle, was stationary in front of him.

Sgt. Eric Vaughan reported that the Rood truck struck the rear of the Byrd vehicle, pushing it into a westbound 2001 Toyota Camry driven by Leslie Baynard, 53, Greencastle. Baynard had stopped to turn left into First National Bank when her car was struck.

Total damage in the mishap was listed at $2,500-$5,000.

* At 4:19 p.m. Monday, a two-vehicle mishap was reported on Franklin Street, just west of Indianapolis Road, at the easternmost Dairy Castle exit.

Sgt. Ed Wilson reported that Dakota Hacker, 18, Greencastle, was exiting Dairy Castle in a 1992 Chevrolet pickup truck and pulled out in front of an eastbound 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Candice Pelfrey, 37, Greencastle.

The collision resulted in an estimated $2,500-$5,000 damage.

Hacker was ticketed for a learner's permit violation.

* At 1:40 p.m. Saturday, a two-car accident occurred on State Road 240 at Capital Drive, police said.

Theresa Doud, 31, Greencastle, was stopped northbound in the left-turn lane on Capital Drive in a 2008 Subaru Outback.

Reserve Officer Thomas Downing noted that a number of eastbound vehicles were turning right onto Capital Drive but when Doud went to turn westbound, she pulled out in front of a 2012 Honda Civic, driven by Jennifer York, 36, Fillmore, that was continuing eastbound on SR 240.

The collision resulted in total damage estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to eight recent dispatches and two medical assists.

* At 11:35 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to a fire alarm due to cooking at 301 E. Seminary St. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 11:44 a.m.

* At 7:47 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to a fire alarm due to cooking at 507 S. Locust St. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 7:57 p.m.
